Private UK Based Talking Therapy for Adults by Video Call or Telephone
Private UK Based Talking Therapy for Adults by Video Call or Telephone
I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT), Dynamic Interpersonal Therapist (DIT), and EMDR Therapist. Through my time with the NHS and private practice, I have supported hundreds of clients facing common mental health difficulties, including generalised anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and many others.
What We Do
Sometimes we need to go ‘Beyond the Surface’ to truly understand ourselves and our difficulties. At Beyond the Surface Therapy, my role is to guide you through your mental health challenges using evidence-based approaches, helping you move beyond just “getting by” to living in a way that you choose. I support you in taking back control of your life and making decisions aligned with your values.
Why You Might Seek Therapy / Why It Helps
You may be struggling with negative or unhelpful thoughts that make work, relationships, or being alone difficult. Anxiety, depression, or unresolved trauma might still affect you. Your self-esteem and confidence may be low, and life may feel suffocating or overwhelming. Therapy provides a safe space to work through these challenges.
How We Work
Using evidence-informed approaches CBT, DIT or EMDR, we can create meaningful change. In therapy sessions, I aim to help you:
Understand the factors that lead to and maintain your difficulties
Develop more effective ways of managing your mental health
Identify and shift unhelpful cycles of thinking, feeling, and behaving
Nurture a balanced perspective on your problems
Build a healthier relationship with yourself
Continue your personal growth
With EMDR, we can also work safely to process distressing memories and trauma, helping the past feel less overwhelming while staying grounded in the present.

Who You’ll Work With
All sessions are private, one-to-one, with me, Sam Lynch MSc, BSc. We meet via video call or phone, offering flexibility to fit your schedule. Research shows online therapy can be just as effective as face-to-face sessions.
When You Can Start
Therapy sessions are available based on appointment availability. You can use the Online Booking System to check available times and select a slot that suits your schedule. Clients must be 18 or older to begin.
For more information before booking see the Contact and Book page.
Whether you're struggling to deal with past trauma, a particularly stressful time, long-term depression, or reoccurring problems in your relationships, talking with a professional can help.
I am a fully qualified CBT Therapist registered with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). I am also a Dynamic Interpersonal Therapist and trained through the Anna Freud Centre in London. I have worked in Mental health since 2013 and qualified as a CBT therapist in 2020. I have been working with NHS clients since 2015 and private clients since 2022.
I have delivered hundreds of hours of therapy sessions to adults of all ages and from many different backgrounds. I have been privileged to witness people who have come to therapy burdened or overwhelmed by their problems make positive changes to their lives.
We can meet via video call or telephone, however, video calls have advantages over telephone alone. These advantages include being able to see each other which can help with communication. Another is the ability to share the screen so we can both see any relevant information or diagrams we are working on.
